Message from the Minister of Health and Social Solidarity of the Hellenic Republic, Mr. D. Avramopoulos
Following the recent meeting of the president of the HBA-USA , Dr. Konstantinos Drosatos with the Minister of Health and Social Solidarity, Mr. Dimitrios Avramopoulos , the Minister expressed his pleasure to share the following message with the HBA-USA members:
Dear Friends and Distinguished Scientists,
I welcome the opportunity to reach you, the members of the Hellenic Bioscientific Association in the USA through your website and newsletter. In the 21st century, the challenges that we face are to continue to expand the frontier of knowledge across all research approaches; biomedical, clinical, public health and health services research ; and to maintain globally leading positions in all of these important areas. An even bigger challenge is to ensure that new knowledge is captured for the benefit of health through new diagnostics, new products, new therapies, evidence-informed policy development and
evidence-based best practices in healthcare delivery. Biomedical research has great potential to inform and contribute to the development of options that can
shape the future of health systems, and I welcome your dynamic input as the Hellenic Biomedical Association into this arena.
For Greece, it is important that we take full advantage of the outstanding biomedical researchers of Greek Diaspora and foster the innovative approaches to tackling our own health problems. Today, as research collaboration grows, Greek Biomedical scientists should be given every opportunity to work with international colleagues, and to set their sights at the highest international levels.
The Global Hellenic Medical Network (GHMN) was conceived as a means to coordinate the sporadic efforts of scientific associations and networks of
Greek Diaspora in the sensitive sector of Health and enhance the scientific interaction and collaboration among its members all over the world. I would
like to thank those of you who recently participated in the 1st Global Meeting of the Greek Doctors in Diaspora in Paphos in Cyprus, and hope to see
you in the next one which is being organized in Greece in 2009, as envisaged in the founding forum held in Kos in 2007. Our Ministry will continue to
support this initiative and every development and product of this creative effort.
Through everyone's efforts, we hope to be able to become a reflection of the inexhaustible possibilities and the cohesive bonds of the Diaspora, which
views the future with optimism, dynamism and confidence.
Thank you again for this opportunity to communicate with you.
Warm regards,
Dimitris Avramopoulos
Minister of Health and Social Solidarity
Hellenic Republic
